O ciclista do Xacobeo Galicia Francisco Pacheco clasificouse en sexta posición no Trofeo de Palma, carreira coa que comezou a dezanove edición da Challenge de Mallorca, e que tivo como vencedor ao australino Robbie McEwen, do Katusha.

Pacheco mostrábase satisfeito ao remate da proba, porque “non puiden conseguir unha boa colocación e, aínda así, fun remontando posicións. Doume por satisfeito co posto obtido, dadas as circunstancias e o nivel dos sprinters que había”, declarou.

Sobre o ecuador da proba o ciclista do Xacobeo Galicia tivera que superar unha picada coa axuda dos seus compañeiros. Outra avaría idéntica sufrira tamén Carlos Castaño. Estes foron tamén os únicos contratempos. Tampouco puido evadir estar situación o principal favorito á vitoria, André Greipel (Columbia), que acabou clasificándose duodécimo.

O equipo profesional galego, en xeral, mostrouse combativo no pouco marxe que o pelotón concedeu ás aventuras, con intentos a cargo de Serafín Martínez, José Antonio de Segovia, Delio Fernández ou Gustavo Rodríguez.

Fóra disto, a primeira xornada de competición en Mallorca non dá para sacar demasiadas conclusións, aínda que se realizasen os dez xiros sobre o circuíto urbano de 11,6 quilómetros a unha media de 49,26km/h. e as pernas acusen a falta de competición, porque o perfil do trazado é chairo.

O Trofeo de Palma é esencialmente un magnífico escaparate que aproxima ao gran público unha ampla representación das mellores figuras do ciclismo internacional no momento actual. E nese aspecto cumpriu perfectamente a función, axudado o espectáculo por un céntrico e fermoso escenario, o Paseo Marítimo de Palma, e unha mañá soleada con temperaturas primaverais.

Este ano non haberá unha clasificación xeral da Challenge de Mallorca, nin sequera de xeito oficioso. Todas as carreiras disputaranse independentemente, sen ningunha conexión para a xeral. Na segunda xornada correrase o Trofeo Cala Millor, sobre unha distancia de 172,4 quilómetros e un perfil apto de novo para os velocistas, pois, como máximas dificultades, presenta tres subidas de cuarta categoría.
